Lego's New Hogwarts Great Hall Set Is Going to Magically Drain My Wallet

io9

This isn’t Lego’s first attempt at miniaturizing Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Castle (it’s at least the sixth) and at 878-pieces it’s not the largest version either. But somehow the new Hogwarts Great Hall set stands several Hagrids above all the previous versions by recreating, in wonderful detail, one of the franchise’s…

Deleted Thor: Ragnarok Scene Is Jeff Goldblum at His Jeff Goldblumiest

Following up from last week’s deleted scene, which featured Jeff Goldblum getting intimate with some tentacles, Thor: Ragnarok is giving us more delightful absurdity from the Grandmaster.

Honestly, I believe that Taika Waititi has dozens of hours of footage of Jeff Goldblum pretty much playing Jeff Goldblum as an ancient Elder of the Universe with his own chaos pleasure planet. His Grandmaster is all over the place—flitting from DJing at his own space raves to executing his cousin with a “melt stick” a moment later—and you can tell that much of the Grandmaster’s mannerisms are Goldblum improvising.

We don’t know if this deleted scene was even scripted as such or if Goldblum and Rachel House, who plays his bodyguard/bad cop henchwoman Topaz, just ran with it long after the scene was set to end and Waititi kept rolling tape. Their riff on “universal hand signs” follows a part that is in Ragnarok: the Grandmaster is furious that Thor has escaped his custody and taken his beloved champion the Hulk with him.

The Grandmaster summons Loki—who at this point is still marginally trying to retain his favor—and Valkyrie, who hasn’t quite embraced her old job calling and is still marginally acting as Scrapper 142. He initiates a competition between the two to track down Thor and the Hulk, Loki and Valkyrie leave, and then … the Grandmaster and Topaz have an extended debate about universal hand signs and symbols.

The irony and humor here is that the symbol the Grandmaster is trying to convey is, I believe, one of the more universally recognized ones—”Can I get the check?”—but like most things with the Grandmaster, it’s complicated.

“Jeff Goldblum is god’s tall, awkward, funny gift to humanity,” writes YouTube commenter sam Olive on the clip. Yes, yes he is, and we are most blessed to have him.

If you missed last week’s holographic tentacle party / Thor & Bruce’s heart-to-heart … we can fix that.

Thor: Ragnarok is out on Digital in HD and Movies Anywhere on February 20, with the DVD/Blu-ray dropping March 6th. This is so soon! Can’t wait to fall asleep to this movie at night and dream of trippy space techno-synths.

LEGO unveils the Marvel 76105 Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition, available March 3rd [News]

LEGO unveiled the much-awaited 76105 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition (whew!) at the New York Toy Fair earlier today. The set, based on Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, includes 1,363 pieces and an exclusive Iron Man minifigure, with availability from LEGO stores starting on March 3rd for $119.99 USD.

The impressive set includes a rotating torso with a light brick in the chest, two options for interchangeable left arms (one of which includes working jackhammer functionality), a construction assembly platform with two robot arms, glow in the dark highlights, a fire extinguisher, and a UCS-like sticker highlighting the technical details of the Hulkbuster armor.

Measuring over nine inches tall, the Hulkbuster is fully poseable and also comes with Tony Stark’s workshop desk with computer screens, a toy racecar and a small model of Veronica, the mobile service module deployed from a space satellite to anywhere on earth to deliver the armor in the blockbuster film.

The Hulkbuster also comes with an exclusive minifigure featuring Iron Man’s Mark 34 armor. The Mark 34 armor has been available in minifigure form previously in three Age of Ultron-themed sets, though this version includes a more accurate torso print detailing the housing for the circular Arc Reactor on its chest.

The exclusive Iron Man Mark 43 minifigure can easily fit into the Hulkbuster armor by flipping the mech’s printed domed head. This functionality was first seen in 76031 The Hulk Buster Smash, though on a much smaller scale, and might be seen again in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War set, 76104 The Hulkbuster Smash-Up.

The front and back of the Hulkbuster include some impressive greebling by using pearl gold ingots and modified 1×1 rounded plates with handle, a newer piece that recently came in the LEGO IDEAS 21313 Ship in the Bottle. The pearl gold detailing really sets off the dark red armor nicely, and the model comes with several new part colorings in dark red, specifically the new “double jumper” located on the back of its arms.

The Hulkbuster’s left arm can be interchanged between a regular arm with poseable hand or a jackhammer arm, using a rubber band to achieve the functionality. The extra appendage can be attached to one of the construction platform’s robot arms for storage when not in use.

In comparison to it’s film counterpart, the LEGO Hulkbuster’s gold detailing and glow in the dark elements really make this model shine. This side-by-side comparison shows how close LEGO has been able to replicate the shape and details of the Hulkbuster from the Avengers: Age of Ultron film.

Overall, the Hulkbuster appears to be a highly detailed, near-film accurate set that will likely be extremely popular. LEGO has confirmed that there will unfortunately be no VIP early access for the Hulkbuster when it goes on sale Saturday, March 3rd, a trend we are seeing more and more of following the VIP early launch sell-out of the 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon. So good luck to those who want to get this awesome set, just don’t let the actual Hulk anywhere near it since he has a proclivity to smash shiny things.

The full press release and image gallery from LEGO are included below. The Brothers Brick will bring you close-up photos of this set and more from the New York Toy Fair this weekend, so stay tuned.

When the Hulkbuster made its grand debut in Age of Ultron, Lego gave us a cool, but kinda tiny version of Stark’s most impressive suit. Now, ahead of the Hulkbuster’s return in Infinity War, Lego’s knocking it up another notch with a lavish, 9-inch-tall brick behemoth.
